RUTH SHERCLIFF

"I’ve always been a yo-yo dieter and reluctant exerciser, which means I’ve always avoided mirrors and having my photo taken where possible! Over the last couple of years any attempt to get fit and lose weight has resulted in injury and failure. My GP suggested that I consider working with a personal trainer, as it’s harder to get fit the older we get and it would ensure that I could train injury free. It’s the best advice I’ve ever had!

 

At my initial meeting with Steve he tried to reassure me that I had nothing to fear and explained his '3 golden rules'; Don’t give up, give 100% and to trust him. I was terrified before my first session but I’m sure that everybody is too. Since then I have trusted him completely. I hope he’d agree that I don’t give up but I had a real problem with the 100% rule. It turns out that when I thought I was giving 100% I probably wasn’t even half way there. With Steve’s support, incredible patience and motivation, I’m working much nearer that 100% now, and I LOVE IT!

 

I’ve been blown away by the results I’ve achieved in only 6 months:

 

•   I’ve lost 18kg and dropped 2 dress sizes.

•   My profile picture on Facebook is now of me - looking slim!

•   I completed my first walking marathon that took place over the Pennines.

•   I can look in the mirror and feel proud.

•   Having found it literally impossible to do even one full sit-up. I can now do 100 weighted sit ups (Starting at a weight of 7kg)

•   I’ve knocked 27% off the time that it takes me to get up Shutlingsloe

•   My recent health check has seen me go from ‘obese’ to now OUT of the ‘overweight’ category and into a ‘healthy’ weight range.

•   I’m more confident and willing to give anything a go - recently I actually put on a wetsuit and tried my hand at surfing. The old Ruth would have

    sat on the beach and watched.

•   I did a 5k Park Run recently, my first for over 2 years, and beat my personal best by over 9 minutes.

•   I have no injuries and am looking forward to continuing my journey to get fitter and slimmer.

 

Every session in the gym is different and I’ve done things that I never thought possible, but it’s always fun and definitely challenging.
